The 2022 Congressional elections must return to the House and Senate strong majorities dedicated to safeguarding the rights of all American citizens, rebuilding trust in public service and restoring confidence in the United States around the globe. To that end, the Steady State group of former national security professionals is announcing today our first endorsements of outstanding candidates, including Representative Tom Malinowski, who share our values, our commitment to America, and have strong national security experience.

Tom Malinowski (https://malinowskifornj.com) is seeking re-election to his third term as the representative from the Seventh Congressional District of New Jersey. Congressman Malinowski was born in Communist Poland during the Cold War, emigrating with his mother to Central New Jersey when he was six years old. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and St. Antony’s College, Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Congressman Malinowski’s professional life has been dedicated to giving back to the country that gave him his freedom, with a special focus on human rights. During the Clinton Administration, he served on the State Department Policy Planning Staff and the White House National Security Staff. In the Obama Administration, he was Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; leaders from both parties praised his work defending human rights. In the private sector, Congressman Malinowski continued to seek to advance human rights around the world, as Washington Director for Human Rights Watch. In the House of Representative, he serves on the Committees on Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security, as well as on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Founded after the 2016 Presidential election, the Steady State now includes over 200 national security professionals. Steady State members include former intelligence officers, specialists in defense policy, diplomats, and Congressional staff. We are pleased to endorse Tom Malinowski and other candidates for the House and Senate who will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen America’s democracy and place in the world.
