Steady State Calls For Congressional

Washington, D.C. — September 5, 2025 — The Steady State today announced that it has sent a formal letter to the leadership of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), raising grave concerns about activist Laura Loomer’s apparent influence over sensitive national security matters.

In the letter, The Steady State documents Ms. Loomer’s reported involvement in the removal of senior officials at the National Security Agency (NSA)—including the Director, Deputy Director, and General Counsel—as well as her recommendation that the Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) be removed. That recommendation, according to reports, contributed directly to the cancellation of Vice Chairman Mark Warner’s planned oversight visit to NGA.

“These developments highlight the extraordinary danger of allowing an unelected activist, with no governmental status, authority, or national security experience, to shape U.S. intelligence and security decisions without accountability,” said Steven A. Cash, Executive Director of The Steady State. “This is not only improper, it may also implicate serious legal violations.” The letter emphasizes that Ms. Loomer appears to be operating in a “quasi-government” role, functioning outside of statutory frameworks that exist to ensure transparency, accountability, and legality. Her influence, the letter notes, extends beyond personnel decisions to include involvement in policies such as the revocation of security clearances, reportedly at her urging.

The Steady State warns that this situation must be viewed in the broader context of an Administration consolidating personal control over the nation’s intelligence services. With Ms. Loomer’s assistance, President Trump appears to be sidelining legal norms and institutional independence in favor of personal loyalty.

Accordingly, The Steady State has urged SSCI and HPSCI to undertake a full inquiry into Ms. Loomer’s status, role, and influence, as well as the broader trend of extralegal control over the Intelligence Community.
