SUBJECT: SITREP 28: THE FREDONIA PROJECT – PROMINENT KENTUCKY SENATOR, OPHTHALMOLOGIST AND ANTI-VAXXER CALLS OUT ANTHONY FAUCI

SUMMARY: IN ACCORDANCE WITH MFA DIRECTIVE 1826-APRIL-1, THIS EMBASSY HAS INITIATED A REGULAR SERIES OF ANALYTICAL DISPATCHES REGARDING THE INTERNAL DYNAMICS OF THE UNITED STATES. THE SERIES, DESIGNATED “THE FREDONIA PROJECT,” WILL BE CIRCULATED UNDER STANDARD SITREP PROTOCOL. UNAUTHORIZED PUBLICATION HAS BEEN OBSERVED VIA THIRD-PARTY ENTITY KNOWN AS “THE STEADY STATE.” PRESUMED LEAK. NO ACTION REQUIRED.

On August 6, 2026, in a vote led by Kentucky GOP Senator, Ophthalmologist and prominent anti-vaxxer Senator Dr. Rand Paul, the Senate Homeland Security Committee held Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress. Senator Dr. Paul then bypassed a full Senate vote to refer the contempt finding directly to the Justice Department for potential prosecution.

This action followed a highly touted, extended, and contentious Congressional hearing on July 29, also led by Senator Dr. Paul, that focused on Fauci’s role in the first Trump administration during the COVID pandemic that began 6 years ago. In the hearing, Fauci, on the advice of his attorney, took the Fifth Amendment some 111 times, invoking his right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Aware of Senator Dr. Paul’s apparent fixation on Fauci’s COVID role, Fauci was concerned that the questions being posed by Senator Dr. Paul and his Republican cohorts might be intended to catch Fauci in perjury. (Ambassador Comments: It is interesting that Senator Dr. Paul, an actual ophthalmologist, although not certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology or any organization recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, is (and has been) so focused on Fauci that he spent valuable Senate time, and that of the American people, questioning Fauci about his work during the COVID pandemic. Right now, in 2026, the United States is facing an acute outbreak of Cyclospora, which results from eating food or drinking water contaminated with microscopic traces of human feces that contain the parasite. This parasite has sickened thousands and killed, as of this time, two individuals. Not to mention the continuing outbreaks of measles, a disease that was, effectively, eradicated by a vaccine.

One would have expected that the Senator Dr. would take advantage of the opportunity to query a medical expert of Fauci’s reputation and stature about these current outbreaks of disease, since Fauci served for 38 years as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), and as the Chief Medical Advisor to the President for seven different administrations. One might reasonably conclude that this hearing just might have been called to draw attention away from the scores of controversial decisions and lack of decisions taken by well-known anti-science, anti-vaxxing, not-Doctor, genius Robert F. Kennedy Jr, hired by President Trump. Kennedy’s confirmation was supported by Senator Dr. Paul, who giddily voted to confirm the not-doctor, anti-vaxxer, science skeptic as the current Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. )

In his opening remarks before Senator Dr. Paul’s committee, Fauci shared his concern that the committee’s goal was to trap him into saying something that could put him behind bars. Although Fauci received a pre-emptive pardon from former President Biden that unconditionally protected him from prosecution for any actions related to his role as Director of the NIAID, the White House Coronavirus Task Force, or as Chief Medical Advisor, new testimony could expose Fauci to criminal prosecution. (Ambassador Comments: During Joe Biden’s term, senior GOP figures, like Senator Dr. Paul, continuously indicated their intent to go after Dr. Fauci for the advice he provided to Trump during the COVID pandemic. Fauci’s attorneys advised Fauci to take the Fifth, and Fauci, wisely, followed their advice.)

Senator Dr. Paul led the questioning and spent his time, during which Fauci legitimately refused to answer his questions, becoming more and more angry, more and more frustrated, and more and more threatening. (Ambassador Comments: This focus on Fauci by Senator Dr. Paul and his GOP cohorts is bizarre given that Fauci actually took effective, science-based actions to save lives and mitigate the damage of the pandemic, while Senator Dr. Paul’s political ally and leader, President not-Doctor Trump, did nothing at all to stop the spread and mitigate the virulence of COVID. Nothing that is, unless you agree that ingesting Ivermectin and injecting bleach into the human body might be effective to fight the virus.

Interestingly, neither the Senate nor most of Trump’s Cabinet appear to have any interest in addressing real and current health issues in this country. Senator Dr. Paul’s 6-year crusade against Fauci makes little sense, especially given the deadly outbreaks going on RIGHT NOW, for which the current Trump administration’s lack of response has been widely criticized. The Cyclospora outbreaks seem not to have been addressed by the Administration at all. Per the Guardian newspaper, “Donald Trump’s former top food safety official has accused the administration of a near “catastrophic” mismanagement of the Cyclospora outbreak that has sickened thousands of people in the US.” Instead, as demonstrated by Senator Dr. Paul, the GOP-led Senate prefers to focus on a 6 year old dispute.

We here in the Fredonia Mission to the US find this whole episode to be a tragically perfect example of both the GOP’s cowardice in the face of President Trump’s steady march toward dictatorship and the allergy the GOP has apparently developed to actual facts and science. We believe that Senator Dr. Paul and the vast majority of his colleagues know the difference between fact and fiction. We are uncertain, however, when or if these “leaders” will return to platforms that rely on and communicate fact- not fiction-based policies.

Trump, lawmakers, department and agency heads, and senior spokespeople for the party and policies of Trump continue to spread disinformation, The citizenry believes these falsehoods, and has been believing this nonsense since Trump’s first term. The misinformation and disinformation activity that supports autocracy has increased and secured a hold within the citizenry. Since it is a long-honed specialty of President Trump, it is not a tool this wannabe autocrat will forego anytime soon.)
